Coronation Street took a dramatic turn on Thursday night as Max Turner was charged with incitement to commit murder after Blake stabbed Alya.

The teenager was left terrified when he was arrested by DS Swain and hauled in for police questioning after the shocking racially motivated stabbing at Speed Daal.

Despite Max protesting that he did not order Blake to commit any violent acts, he was charged with incitement to commit murder for his racist propaganda videos.

His arrest comes after Blake (Adam Little) had  revealed it was Max's (Paddy Bever) racist videos that inspired him to carry out the horrifying attack.

Blake had attended an event to highlight Weatherfield's refugee drop-in centre armed with a knife as he planned to attack event organiser Maria Connor.

But Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) jumped in the way after seeing Blake charging at Maria and was stabbed before the teenager was wrestled to the ground.

And in the aftermath of the attack, which saw Alya suffer a punctured lung, Max tried to run away after hearing Blake blame him, before being arrested and charged himself in connection with the attack.

Max was first seen carrying multiple bags as he tried to run away from home in the early hours of the morning, before his adoptive father David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) and Gail stopped him to ask where he was going.

To which Max replied: 'I can't stop here, everyone thinks I was part of what Blake did.'

'What if he says something to the police? When they were dragging him off, he made out like I told him to do it,' he added.

But David insisted: 'Put your bag down, we can sort this out together.'

David then asked for help from his half-sister Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien), mother Gail Platt (Helen Worth) and lawyer Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson).

As the group all gathered at David's house, Max showed them the racist propaganda videos Griff persuaded him to make but insisted he had nothing to do with the stabbing.

However, Adam admitted that he could be charged with inciting violent because of the videos he created, for which he could face up to 10 years in prison.

In shocking scenes, Max was then handcuffed and arrested for incitement to commit murder as David and a tearful Gail watched on.

In police questioning, Max continued to insist that he did not 'inspire' Blake to commit the violent act and said he had 'saved lives' by earlier warning people about the bomb.

After becoming influenced by Griff, he learned that he had planted a bomb in Speed Daal's van and told residents, with Alya saving dozens of lives by driving the van away from the street.

Referring to the incident in police questioning, Max said: 'I had no idea what Blake was planning, I'm not racist. I expressed my opinions on my videos but I didn't want anyone to get hurt.

'I warned people about the bomb, I saved lives. How is this anything to do with me?'

DS Swain (Vicky Myers) hit back with: 'Blake is saying your videos influenced his actions.'

But Max fumed: 'That's ridiculous!'

Max then tried to explain how he became influenced by Griff Reynolds (Michael Condron), saying he was 'lonely' after his mother Kylie Platt (Paula Lane) was killed.

He tearfully said: 'I've never had a hand-out, or a leg-up, or extra help or whatever. Despite the fact that I've got ADHD and can't get back into school.

'Despite the fact that my mum was stabbed to death outside my house. You learn to fend for yourself, you know, it's lonely.

'And then, someone comes along and tells you, you're not mad, you're not worthless, you're not alone.'

However, the episode came to a dramatic end as Max was charged with incitement to commit murder as the scared teenager looked to David for help.

As well as Max facing the consequences of his connections with Griff, Alya was also seen recovering in hospital after Blake's horrific attack.

The episode opened with Alya waking up following her life-saving operation after she suffered a punctured lung in the shocking stabbing.

She was visited by Maria, who shared her gratitude for Alya saving her life, saying: 'I'm so, so sorry, I can never repay you for what you did.'

Alya later became tearful as she recovered in the hospital, saying: 'I don't know what's come over to me, I keep thinking what would have happened if Gary and Daryan hadn't have been there, if they'd reacted a second later.'

Alya was later discharged from hospital and was greeted by Sarah on her doorstep, who tried to persuade her that her nephew Max had nothing to do with the stabbing.

'Max genuinely had nothing to do with what happened to Alya,' Sarah insisted.

However, Alya apologised and said she needed to go into the warm and lie down, with a dejected Sarah leaving.

Elsewhere, Carla Barlow (Alison King) tried to fire Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) from his job at Underworld for lying to a client and pretending to be a 'top consultant'.

But Stephen claimed his estranged wife Gabrielle (Helene Maksoud) had buried him in 'red tape' and stopped him from accessing his money, and he agreed to help out with stitching at the company, managing to keep his job and avoid firing.

Stephen is soon set for a dramatic exit from the soap opera as his life of crime begins to catch up with him.
