Taylor Swift lived up to her promise by dropping a new music video for her song Lavender Haze in the early morning hours on Friday.

For the upbeat electro-hip-hop-inflected synth-pop song, the pop superstar opted for a trippy surrealist look that starred the singer-songwriter in a 'sultry sleepless 70's fever dream' complete with purple smoke and a lover, played by model and actor Laith Ashley.

Like the proceeding singles off Midnights (2022), Bejeweled and Anti-Hero, Swift conceived, wrote and directed the new music video.

The video begins in a pretty tame way with Swift laying in bed with an old-school record player spinning a vinyl album.

As the vocals kick in the Lover star looks over at her man, who's sleeping alongside her in bed.

Moments later, Swift can be seen sitting up in bed sounding as if she storytelling while her lover continues to lay back under the sheets.

After mentioning her 'melancholy', the first of many tripped out special effects kicks off when a sparkling and colorful image appears on her man's back.

It's at this point that the catching sing-along chorus drops, while at the same time a match is lit and the room becomes engulfed in a smokey haze.

'I feel a lavender haze creeping up on me - So real, I'm damned if I do give a damn what people say,' she sings in the chorus. 'No deal, the 1950s s**t they want from me - I just wanna stay in that lavender haze (Ooh, ooh, whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa).'

While singing the lyrics in a smooth delivery, Swift dances around the purple smoke-filled room now in a Lavender Haze.

As the video progresses, the dreamy style creeps back in and out with things like flowers growing on the carpet and her television opening into a galaxy, to go along with the dance party in her room.

It ends with Swift falling asleep on a cloud in a starry sea of swimming koi fish.
