Russell Crowe has praised the Queensland government for its focus on Australian films after the state was announced as the AACTA host for the next three years.
The Gladiator star, 58, flew to the Gold Coast on Saturday to announce the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards is leaving Sydney.
Crowe, who is president of the AACTAs - which are informally known as the 'Down Under Oscars' - said he was thrilled the Queensland government was acknowledging Australian cinema.
