Love Island USA fans were devastated to learn that winning couple Zeta Morrison and Timmy Pandolfi had officially split last week, just five months after season four of the reality dating series came to an end.

The separation made further headlines thanks to Zeta's podcast interview with YouTuber Murad Merali in which she detailed how previously unknown issues with both Timmy and his sister, Naomi Pandolfi, played a part in the pair's decision to call it quits.

During the lengthy chat, Zeta, 29, claimed to have had an 'unpleasant' first meeting with Naomi, and claimed that her ex's sister had told him to 'pick a dark-skinned girl because America loves that' before he went into the villa.

Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com in response to Zeta's description of their limited encounters, Naomi, 33, confirmed that she did make the comment to her brother but denied it had been made with malicious intent.

'I do remember telling my brother to pick a Black girl but it wasn't as some kind of way to play the system or a game plan. It was more in solidarity because I want to see Black girls of any shade on screen,' she explained.

'That's part of what I do for work almost every day. I work with a company that promotes creators from marginalized communities and helps them pitch concepts and ideas to the people who are able to get that made.'

Naomi stated that she did reveal her comment during a meeting with Timmy, 29, and Zeta - known as 'Zimmy' by fans - in which the pair were discussing business opportunities they were hoping to capitalize on after leaving the show.

She claimed that she had been brought into the call - which she described as 'pleasant' - due to her previous work within the film industry.

The social media manager was quick to dismiss insinuations that have since been made by fans that she is colorist as she explained: 'We were discussing women in film, people of color and dark-skin women in particular, because Zeta had mentioned she came to Love Island USA because she didn't think someone dark-skinned could win Love Island UK, which was a surprise to me.'

She continued: 'To me, what makes a Black woman beautiful is her Blackness. That's not something that I would ever express in a negative light.'

Naomi explained she had been 'hurt' and 'shocked' to later learn that Zeta had taken the comments to heart.

She stated: 'That comment in the interview actually is the one that hurt me the most. My mom is dark-skinned, and my parents were an interracial couple before it was cool. We actually experienced a lot of hate. I saw a lot of prejudice and the things that my mom went through, up close and personal, and that's not something I would ever want anybody else of any complexion to feel.'

Naomi stressed: 'Had I known that that was something that she took to heart and was offended by, which is incredibly unfortunate, I would have immediately apologized. That's not the way I want to make anybody feel.'

The creative director also admitted feeling surprised by Zeta's description of their interactions due to the fact they had been focused on business.

She explained: 'We met in the beginning in September 2022. That's the last and only time I spoke with her directly. We weren't in communication beyond October 1.

'It's always hurtful when someone says meeting you was unpleasant. It wasn't for me. We were discussing things that 'Zimmy' could do together. Zeta mentioned wanting to get into film and I have a background in that so I wanted to help her make connections.'

She added: 'I had no idea the interview was happening. I hadn't anticipated that it would be discussing me, especially since I am very far removed from the situation and I didn't have much contact with Zeta. I was shocked by the comments and the
