Ant & Dec's Limitless Win fans were left in utter shock on Saturday, as a mother and son duo missed out on the highest jackpot ever won on a British gameshow - £1,200,000.

Tracy-Jane and Troy Beaumont from Liverpool were almost triumphant as they took on the challenge in the nail-biting final episode of season two.

Their episode was full of plenty of thrills and spills- and even featured a cameo from Troy's favourite Doctor Who actor David Tennant, who wished them luck in a video after hearing that both were massive fans of the show.

The lucky two climbed their way up the ladder to £1,200,000- a record amount of money in British gameshows.

But they ran out of lives and missed out on the massive jackpot by a narrow margin.

Troy and Tracy-Jane showed off an impressive amount of general knowledge throughout the game, answering scores of questions correctly.

Despite their loss, Troy was still delighted to have got as far as they did on the show, writing: 'I got to meet Ant and Dec, David Tennant ate a cake with my face on it and we made TV history. We might have lost, but I feel like a winner.’

However, viewers were gutted for them, with one person writing: 'You did a great job Troy! It's a shame you didn't win the game but I think you won at pretty much everything else this evening.'

And another said: 'I was screaming at my tv, I really wanted you to get the cash! Well played and a really entertaining game, I think most of us watching were rooting for you!'

A third added: 'Was so hoping you would win big. Oh I'm gutted for you.'

Meanwhile, a separate person penned: 'I think you had a great advantage in only having 500 quid in the bank. Meant you could really have a go at those questions higher up.

'Shame you never got an exact answer, was a great run considering you only started with 20 lives!'

And a different person added: 'I was on tender hooks throughout the episode. I was hoping you and your Mum would become Millionaires tonight.'

It comes after it was reported that Ant and Dec have trademarked Limitless Win which leaves them able to cash in on board games, puzzles, apps and books on their game show.

The TV presenters own production firm Mitre Studios Ltd, and according to The Mirror, have 'lodged the papers with the Intellectual Property Office'.

This application means they have legal protection of their trademarked show for ten years.
