Sunrise: Larry Emdur breaks silence on David Koch's retirement plans trends now

Larry Emdur has denied rumours he could be replacing David Koch on Sunrise, insisting he is happy fronting The Morning Show and doesn't want the promotion.

Speaking on The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Tuesday, the 58-year-old said he was not in the running for the co-hosting job on Sunrise, which is considered one of the most high-profile and important roles at Channel Seven.

The network has not yet announced who will step in for Koch, 66, when he retires at the end of next year, but possible candidates include fill-in host Matt Shirvington and Weekend Sunrise anchor Matt Doran.

Rumours also surfaced this week that Dr Chris Brown could be a contender for the role, after he jumped ship from Channel 10 to Seven.

When asked by radio host Kyle Sandilands if he was in the running for Koch's job, Emdur swiftly hosed down the speculation.

'No. The Morning Show is unreal. [I've done it for] 15 years,' he said.

Sandilands then quizzed him on rumours celebrity vet Brown was being primed to succeed Koch, and Emdur said that wasn't happening either.

'What, is Chris going to sit there for three hours in the morning talking about sick dogs? How's that going to work?' he said.

Koch is planning his retirement but in October committed to staying at Seven's breakfast show for at least another two years.

He signed a contact extension locking him in until the end of 2024, but negotiated for 'greater flexibility' in his schedule.
