Marshall Hamston fled his abusive father Colin during Thursday night's episode of Emmerdale after Laurel Thomas said he could move in with her family.

Viewers had been worried for Marshall's safety after he moved back in with his homophobic father Colin during Wednesday night's episode.

The teenager had been hiding in Rishi Sharma's house with the help of Arthur Thomas after fleeing the boarding school his father had forced him to attend.

However, Arthur's mother Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) realised Marshall (Max Fletcher) had been hiding in the village and called his father, leading to the boy returning home, much to Arthur's anger.

Laurel was left fearing she had made a terrible mistake after learning Colin (Mark Noble) had branded her son a 'pervert' for his sexuality, and tried to help Marshall in Thursday's episode.

She went round to Colin's house to check on Marshall after Arthur said he had been 'locked' in his room and was horrified to see bruises up Marshall's arm, with the teenager confirming his father had caused them.

Laurel then insisted Marshall would be moving in with her family instead, leading to an enraged Colin disowning his son when an upset Marshall came out as gay in emotional scenes.

Laurel then took Marshall away from his father to live with her family, but it remains to be seen whether manipulative Colin will try and get control back over his son.

The tension kicked off in Thursday's episode when a concerned Arthur finally heard from Marshall after he had returned home with Colin after running away from boarding school.

Grabbing his phone to read the text, Arthur (Alfie Clarke) said: 'It's him! Oh no.'

He continued: 'When he got home his dad hit the roof, it's been really bad... his dad took his tablet and phone and locked him in his room.'

As his mother Laurel voiced her concerns, Arthur said: 'He's going back to boarding school tomorrow. He'll just run away again and he knows he can't come here because you'll send him back!'

To which a concerned Laurel asked: 'Is Marshall OK?'

Arthur replied: 'He doesn't sound OK! His Dad's got the worst temper.'

An angry Laurel said: 'What if I pop in and just talk to him... I need to speak to Colin as a parent, believe me I've seen him for what he is, he's not going to pull the wool over my eyes ever again.'

The concerned mother then quickly charged around to Colin's house and forced her way into his home to check on Marshall.

Speaking to Colin in the doorway, she asked: 'I just wondered if everything was OK with Marshall? He was a bit upset earlier.'

To which Colin replied: 'We had a good chat, he calmed down.'

Pushing her way into his home, Laurel said: 'Good you don't mind me coming in then.'

As she demanded to know where Marshall was, Colin insisted his welfare was none of her business, but Laurel refused to back down.

She said: 'I think it is, and you must think that too because you're lying through your teeth.'

Colin insisted that he had discussed things with Marshall and they had agreed the best thing to do was for him to return to boarding school.

Laurel asked: 'Are you sending him away because you're worried he might be gay?'

Colin went on to hint that Arthur had been a 'bad influence' on his son, leading to Laurel lambasting his homophobic remarks.

She said: 'It's your duty to love and accept your son as he is, not send him away and keep him locked in his room.'

But Colin insisted: 'He's not locked in anywhere, you can see for yourself!'
