Who has Ralph Fiennes dated? A look back at star's chequered love life  trends now

Ralph Fiennes has often hit the headlines with his somewhat chequered love life. 

Last week, the 60-year-old actor raised eyebrows when he was spotted with former lover Francesca Annis, 77 - who was involved in the end of his first marriage.

A witness said: 'They looked very relaxed, came out of the hotel together and took a long walk before going for lunch. They were laughing and joking.' 

The outing came as a surprise as shortly before he was spotted out with socialite Amelia Richards with the pair romantically linked. 

Now, MailOnline takes a look back at Ralph's complicated relationship history.  

Alex Kingston - 1983 to 1997

Ralph met his first wife Alex Kingston at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1983 and dated for 10 years before tying the knot. 

Cracks had begun to show before they made things official, with Alex recalling: 'He'd been away most of that year and came back three days before the wedding. 

'We were like strangers - very fragile. His mother was dying and somehow we thought the wedding was going to heal everything. But that was crazy, of course.'

Shortly after their big day, Ralph's career skyrocketed when he starred in the Oscar-laden Schindler's List.

Just two years after tying the knot the couple divorced in 1997 after Ralph confessed he was love with his Hamlet co-star Francesca Annis.

Speaking after their divorce, Alex told The Daily Mail: 'I was feeling worthless, that I would never find anyone else as good as my husband - which is ridiculous - but I had so little self-esteem. 

'Divorce is awful but it is also something I don't regret happening to me because it has shaped who I am now.' 

She added to the Evening Standard that she felt 'worthless and suicidal' in the aftermath and had to work on rebuilding her confidence. 

Francesca Annis - 1997 to 2006 

Ralph met Francesca when he starred in the critically-acclaimed stage production of Hamlet at the Hackney Empire in 1995.

He starred in the title role while Francesca - who 17 years his senior - was playing his mother Gertrude. 

Both were involved in long-term relationships at the time - with Ralph married to Alex while she was with photographer Patrick Wiseman, the father of her three children.

Speaking about dating a man nearly two decades younger, Francesca previously said: 'Of course I don't spend days agonising over the age difference. How can I? There is nothing I can do about it.

'Ralph and I have been together ten years now so, whatever happens, we have had a very good, different relationship and an interesting time.'

In 2005 Ralph was linked to Showgirls star Gina Gershon by gossip columnists in New York, but he strongly denied the claims and launched legal proceedings against the paper. 

The following year singer Cornelia Crisan alleged she'd had a two-year affair with the actor and the following day Ralph and Francesca announced they'd split after 11 years together.

Sources close to the couple told The Evening Standard: 'It has been a difficult time for the both of them, particularly as they have not even seen each other since the revelations broke.

'Seeing all their private details laid out in all the newspapers has made them both think about their future together.

'Things have not been good for quiet a while. Francesca seems to have been different since she reached 60 and they both realised how big the age gap is between them. Ralph, meanwhile, has been having a mid-life crisis of his own.

'Having their relationship raked over has made him, in particular, decide that it is time to call it a day on the relationship. It is very sad.'
