Tom Cruise has given high praise for the upcoming DC superhero movie The Flash after being shown an advanced screening of the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. 

The Top Gun: Maverick star, 60 — who was recently slammed by David Letterman for not attending the 2023 Oscars — stated that the feature was 'everything you want in a movie,' sources informed the outlet. 

The movie — which stars Ezra Miller, Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck, Michael Shannon, and Sasha Calle — is slated to debut in theaters on June 16. 

Insiders told the publication that the Mission: Impossible actor had heard positive reviews of The Flash during a meeting with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO, David Zaslav, last month in February. 

With his interest piqued, Cruise asked if it would be possible to view the film ahead of time, and shortly after, a messenger was sent to his Beverly Hills home with a copy of it.

After watching The Flash, the film was then promptly taken back to the studio by the messenger and Tom personally reached out to the director, Andy Muschietti, to share his thoughts. 

Sources claimed that the Golden Globe winner told the filmmaker that the feature is 'everything you want in a movie,' and he additionally raved that 'this is the kind of movie we need now.' 

The actor's positive response to the movie comes shortly after his film, Top Gun: Maverick, which was a sequel to the 1986 movie, Top Gun, received six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. 

Cruise did not make an appearance at the Oscars held earlier Sunday due to filming commitments for Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part II in the United Kingdom, according to Entertainment Tonight. 

However, while stopping by "Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday, David Letterman expressed to the host that Tom 'should have been there, celebrating his big jet-pack maverick show.' 

When asked where the actor was, Jimmy responded with, 'We don't know where Tom Cruise was,' adding that the star had explained he couldn't make it to the annual awards show due to 'production issues.' 

Kimmel, who hosted the ceremony for the third time, stated, 'It seems like he should have been there, but he was not there, and like you [David] were saying, maybe he didn't feel like he was going to win, so he didn't come,' and later
