Succession Season 4 premiere: The Roy family returns for its final season trends now

Nearly a year and a half after the explosive Season 3 finale, Succession finally returns for its fourth and final season.

HBO confirmed earlier this month that the show's fourth season would be its last, with this season likely revealing the fate of the Waystar Royco conglomerate that Logan Roy (Brian Cox) built with his family.

Logan's children - Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Shiv (Sarah Snook), Roman (Kieran Culkin) and Connor (Alan Ruck) all tried to veto the sale of the company to Lukas Mattson (Alexander Skarsgard)... but their plans were foiled at the last minute, when Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen) alerted Logan of their plans... essentially throwing his own wife under the bus.

While the children all had the power to veto an impending sale, with the heads up from Tom, Logan was able to take out their veto power with a last-minute deal with his ex Caroline Collingwood (Harriet Walter).

This season will focus on the finalization of the Waystar Royco sale and how it, 'provokes existential angst and familial division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will look like once the deal is complete.'

The Season 4 premiere begins with Logan at his birthday party, saying hello to various guests.

Meanwhile, Kendall visits with Roman, who is on a business video call about their new venture, 'The Hundred,' which Kendall describes as, ' Substack meets Masterclass, meets The Economist, meets The New Yorker.'

Shiv arrives as Roman asks where she's been, as he adds 'We hear that you've been talking to the Jimenez transition team.'

She confirms, 'Well, I've talked to them, but it's because I'm helping them out, as you already know. Okay, so you-- you are talking?'

Shiv adds, 'No. I returned a call. They wanna, you know, talk about talking. They haven't won the election, and they might not, and Dad might not sell, and you two might bail.'

Kendall adds that Logan is 'two days away from selling' but Shiv isn't sure that Logan will sell.

They all revealed they have already drafted their letters of resignation from Waystar though Shiv wants to keep some options.

Back at the birthday party, Greg (Nicholas Braun) arrives with a date, Bridget, though he gets a hard time from Kerry (Zoe Winters).

'You know, I'm not-- I'm not sure this is appropriate,' Greg says though Kerry says, 'We're not a f***ing Shake shack, Greg. This isn't a pre-f**k party. It's a birthday party.

Greg insists, 'And... I am a cousin. I get a plus one. I'm like an honorary kid,' though Kerry adds, 'You do know that-- that we're in the middle of a very hotly contested election, your uncle's on the break of a very large sale, and scoping out a very sensitive acquisition?'

'So, are you certain that she's not gonna leak details right before the board meeting? Do you know she's not a hostile corporate asset?' Kerry asks.

Meanwhile, Tom calls Shiv and tells her that he just had drinks with Naomi Pierce (Annabelle Dexter-Jones).

'Yeah, I was just calling, just to give you a heads-up and just to say hi, and, um, just to say, just to let you know that I just had a little drink with Naomi Pierce last night,' he says, though Shiv is confused.

Shiv asks, 'You're asking me, or you're informing me?' And Tom says, 'Shiv, it's not a thing. It's not a thing.'

Shiv adds, 'You know what? It's fine. It's fine. You're dating my brother's ex. It's fine.'

Tom insists, 'It's social. It's not a sexual thing. You know? So, there's nothing I need to tell you about.'

Shiv goes off and says, 'You know what? It's fine. Go f***ing nail her in the coat check. I don't care. The kid from St. Paul has really made it.'

Tom adds, 'I just thought, under the terms of what we agreed, this was something worth discussing.

Shiv asks where he was at with her and he hangs up the phone and goes tells her siblings that Tom is with Naomi, which confuses Kendall.

Roman wonders if it could be, 'a brain f**k. Dad twisting our turnips, playing the old f**k trombone.'

Connor and Willa (Justine Lupe) are talking with Greg at Logan's party, as the couple are concerned their one percent could get 'squeezed down.'

'From one? 'Cause that's the lowest number possible. Uh, no.
