A contestant on a new SBS extreme survival series based in the Tasmanian outback said he ate over 10,000 calories a day and gained 19kg in preparation for the show.
Michael Atkinson, known as Outback Mike on his YouTube channel where he videos his travel expeditions, is one of 10 contestants starring on Alone Australia.
Participants on the show fight to stay in the wilderness as long as possible to win a grand prize of $250,000.
In order to boost his chance of being able to stay in the Tasmanian outback for as long as possible, Mike decided to put on as much weight as possible.
'Initially, I just ate a lot of fatty foods, but my weight gain plateaued at five kilograms above normal, so I went to a sports dietitian,' he told GQ Australia.
