Sunrise host Natalie Barr struggled to hold back tears as she interviewed the parents of a Gold Coast teenager who was stabbed to death by a gang of youths three years ago.

Jack Beasely, 17, was killed during a fight with two other teens outside a convenience store in Surfers Paradise.

Since Jack's death, his father Brett and mother Belinda have fought tirelessly for new laws targeting knife crime to be passed.

'Jack's Law' will finally be tabled in Queensland Parliament, before officially being 'signed off' on Sunday - which would have been Jack's 21st birthday.

Jack's parents said they were proud the new laws were being put into place on what would have been their late son's milestone day.

'To have it signed off on that day is going to be very special,' Brett told Natalie and her co-host David Koch.

Natalie struggled to hold back tears as David applauded and congratulated the Queensland parents for their 'brilliant' achievement.

David went to subtly comfort his co-host before she became emotional.
