On April Fools' Day this year, there were many celebrities as the pranksters behind the tricks — or the ones being fooled.

For one, Sarah Polley, 44, was hilariously deceived by her own child with an elaborate letter requesting the Oscar-winning filmmaker return her award, so it could be given to the 'rightful' nominee.

And in a clip shared to Instagram, Martha Stewart, 81, left her camera crew in shock by suddenly collapsing and appearing with a towel covered in blood while seemingly in the middle of filming.

The Martha Stewart Living founder opted for an easy yet effective practical joke with red food coloring, while Polley's 11-year-old daughter Eve 'swung low' with her amusing prank.

Earlier this month, the screenwriter had won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for her drama film, Women Talking.

Using that edge, Eve wrote and delivered a lengthy letter informing Polley that the committee presented her with the trophy in error.

In the typed message, she wrote that the 'rightful' Best Adapted Screenplay was actually Edward Berger's All Quiet On The Western Front.

Polley took a snap of the letter and shared it to Twitter, writing: 'My eleven-year-old swung low for April Fools Day this year. #AprilFoolsDay'.

'Dear Sarah Polley,' the letter started. 'We say this to you with deepest regrets: the Oscar you received was given by mistake — you must return it.

'We are giving you one more week to enjoy its presence in your home, but after that period of time you must mail it back to LA.'

In the note, Polley's daughter reassured that the letter was not a joke despite being dated on April Fools' Day and even forged the signature of former Academy president David Rubin.

'We feel it is wrong you get this on April 1 as you will probably think it is a joke, and we feel that is wrong, so another letter will be sent assuring you that this is not a joke,' Eve had written in the letter.

'This is much too cruel to be a joke, ergo we deeply apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused you,' the letter continued.

Playing along: Amusingly, Edward Berger, 53 ¿ the filmmaker that the letter insisted was the 'rightful' award winner ¿ also entertained the joke

In the note penned by Eve, the 'Academy' also stated that they knew that they had awarded her the Oscar in error at the ceremony but hesitated to act until now to avoid another Moonlight and La La Land situation.
