Kate Beckinsale revealed how her 'absolute legend' castmates Robert Sean Leonard and Keanu Reeves chivalrously came to her aid when she suffered a wardrobe malfunction at the world premiere of Much Ado About Nothing during the 46th Cannes Film Festival in 1993.

The British 49-year-old had bought a beige bodysuit in the Sock Shop at the airport, put a flower in her hair from the hotel breakfast tray, and wore 'scuffed steel-toe capped' Dr. Martens for 'the biggest red carpet of my life.'

'When I got in the car to drive to the premiere with Denzel and Pauletta Washington, all the poppers in the crotch popped themselves open and it flipped up like a roller blind,' Kate - who boasts 5.5M Instagram followers - recalled on Monday.

'I didn't feel it was appropriate to go delving around in my undercarriage with all of us in the back of the car so I just quietly panicked. Walked out onto the biggest red carpet of my life and whispered to Keanu and Robert Sean Leonard what had happened.

'In this picture I am holding the front gusset down and the two of them are holding the back gusset. Absolute legends who may not even have fully understood the physics of what was happening or even heard the word "gusset" before, but both jumped in to save me no questions asked.'

Beckinsale's Instagram post received supportive comments from two-time Oscar nominee Naomi Watts, Riverdale actress Nathalie Boltt, and Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game actor Christopher Convery.

Much Ado About Nothing was nominated for the French fest's biggest prize, the Palme d'Or, which went to Chen Kaige's Farewell My Concubine and Jane Campion's The Piano in a rare tie.

The SAG Award nominee was a 19-year-old student at Oxford University when she made her big-screen acting debut as the naïve and kind-hearted Hero, who nearly loses her reputation and fiancé Count Claudio (Leonard) due to a ruse concocted by Don John (Reeves).

The Canadian 58-year-old - who appeared shirtless in one evil plotting scene - was nominated for a Golden Raspberry Award for worst supporting actor for his performance as Don Pedro's (Denzel Washington) villainous half-brother.

But Kenneth Branagh's critically-acclaimed Tuscan-set rom-com, based on the 1623 Shakespearean play, went on to amass $43M at the global box office from a modest $7.1M
