Amy Schumer and Michael Douglas were among the celebrities wearing orange in honor of National Gun Violence Awareness Day.

Wear Orange was established following the death of Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year-old girl who was fatally shot at a playground in Chicago in 2013 - just one week after marching in President Obama's inaugural parade.

'Soon after this tragedy, Hadiya’s friends commemorated her life by wearing orange, the color hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves and others. Wear Orange is now observed every June,' according to the Wear Orange website

'Wear Orange began on June 2, 2015—what would have been Hadiya’s 18th birthday. Since then, Wear Orange has expanded to a period of three days each year: National Gun Violence Awareness Day (the first Friday in June) and Wear Orange Weekend (the accompanying weekend).'

Schumer, 42, wore an orange shirt in honor of three victims of gun violence, including two who were killed at a showing of her 2015 film Trainwreck.

'Wearing orange today in memory of Jillian Johnson, Mayci Breaux, and Ana Grace Marquez-Green,' she posted to her Instagram Stories, along with a photo of her in the shirt.

Johnson and Mayci lost their lives in a shooting at the Lafeyette theater in Louisiana in 2015, while Marquez-Green was one of the children killed in Sandy Hook in 2012.

Michael Douglas also donned a 'Wear Orange' shirt and posted a video urging fans to sport the color.

'Listen up! Today on June 2 is National Gun Violence Awareness Day. I know, every single day should be Gun Violence Awareness Day.
