Sunrise's Mark Beretta reveals why he never wanted to take on David 'Kochie' ... trends now

Sunrise star Mark Beretta has spoken out about Matt Shirvington taking David 'Kochie' Koch's co-hosting job on Sunrise, despite being on the show for more than 20 years.

Mark, 56, who is the sports presenter for the hit breakfast show, said he 'loves what he does too much' than to take on the top job himself.

Kochie revealed he was leaving Sunrise last Monday after 21 years.

His final show will be on Friday and Matt, 44, will be taking over the reins as Sunrise co-host next Monday alongside Natalie Barr, 55.

Mark told Yahoo! Lifestyle that he thinks Matt is the perfect man for the job and he's happy to stay in his sports presenter role.

'I love sport, I love the people, it's my passion – I get to work in my passion,' Mark explained.

He said he enjoys getting to cover some of the biggest sporting events around the world for the show, including the Olympic Games.

'And, you know, it's a different life when you're in that seat,' he said.

He added about Matt: 'I'm really happy, I'm thrilled for Shirvo, because I've known him obviously a long, long time and he's a lovely guy and to have him come in and take that role, personally I couldn't think of anyone better.'

Mark has been the sports presenter on Sunrise since 2004, after previously co-hosting the show for two years.

It comes after Mark hit back at claims David 'Kochie' Koch, 67, was 'forced out' of his Sunrise hosting gig as 'his time was coming to an end'.
