Kim Cattrall has opened up about finding 'bare bones clarity' after the suicide of her beloved younger brother Chris in 2018.

Chris was found dead by police aged 55 after the Sex and the City actress, now 66, took to social media to ask for help in finding him when he went missing.

It took less than a day for authorities to find Cattrall on his property in Blackfalds, Alberta.

Cattrall reflected on her grief journey in an emotional interview with The Sunday Times, saying: 'This wasn’t supposed to happen. It was sudden and unexpected.

'You remember where you were, what happened, what was said. It is all so accessible, all the time, a weight that is always with you and never leaves.

'That was just an extraordinary few days. Everything in you is on high alert because he can be saved. And in my family that was one of the roles you take on.'

Cattrall said the loss of her brother taught her to set boundaries, saying she didn't want to 'care or fret' about people that don't want to fix themselves, adding 'they have to want to change.'

She explained a friend of hers, who is a 'big advocate of AA, told her how alcohol is a 'mistress that gets you alone and kills you' - adding: 'It was startling to hear that with such a bare-bones clarity.'

The star said she was glad her father was not alive at the time of her brother's death as she 'didn't think he could have taken it.'

Shortly after Chris' death, the longtime performer took to Twitter to update her followers with the grim news.

'It is with great sadness that myself and my family announce the unexpected passing of our son and brother, Chris Cattrall,' she tweeted.

'At this time we ask for privacy. We want to thank you all on social media for your outpouring of love and support in this trying time.'

Cattrall and former SATC co-star Sarah Jessica Parker's feud exploded in 2018, when the former blasted the latter for talking about Kim's brother Christopher in a TV interview.
