Jonas Armstrong and Sophie Rundle immersed themselves into character while filming dramatic rescue scenes for new ITV mystery After The Flood in Teesside on Thursday.

Robin Hood star Jonas, 42, was seen battling the currents after plunging into the River Tees to rescue a baby strapped in their car seat.

The actor, who portrays a seemingly heroic local man called Lee, certainly threw himself into filming as he swam towards the car seat before dragging it to safety alongside rescue officers.

Meanwhile, Sophie, 35, who plays PC Joanna Marshall in the drama, was on hand to rescue the tot - with it assumed that a prop baby was used for filming.

The Peaky Blinders star was in full costume for the scenes, donning a high-vis jacket over black overalls as well as a police cap.

Amid filming the action-packed rescue scenes, the actress was also seen taking a break in between filming.

Sophie was seen having a giggle on set while showing off the prosthetic bump she wears for her pregnant character.

With the stars filming out in the elements in the North of England, they were also seen wrapped up in long, blue padded coats.

Sophie looked rather cosy in her fleece-lined outerwear, with the beauty seen clutching a water bottle while chatting to other team members.

Sophie plays the lead in ITV mystery After The Flood, in which the discovery of a man's body after a natural disaster is not all it seems.

She also stars in the crime thriller alongside her husband Matt Stokoe, 34, and the couple were previously seen shooting scenes together.

In a case of life imitating art, Matt plays Sophie's character Jo's husband Pat.

An onlooker watching them on location in Glossop, Derbyshire, recently said: 'It's a beautiful part of the world but there was so much rain that on occasion they had to take a break in filming.
