The animated film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse topped the weekend box office with $19.3 million, ahead of Pixar's Elemental with $18.4 million, while The Flash took a massive tumble, finishing in third place with $15.2 million.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which is in its fourth week of release at the domestic box office, is now up to $317.1 million domestic revenue and $560.3 million worldwide.

The film, which stars Shameik Moore as teen superhero Miles Morales, initially debuted in the top spot for the weekend of June 2.

Comscore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian told the AP that it was 'very rare' for 'a film like this to crawl and spin a web back into the No. 1 spot.

'It´s a testament to the quality of the movie,' he said. 'This is a very competitive and crowded summer movie marketplace. And yet Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has distinguished itself as one of the biggest movies this summer season.'

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was followed by the new Pixar movie Elemental, which came in second place for the second consecutive week with $18.5 million.

The film's $29 million debut last week marked the worst ever three-day opening for Pixar.

The most precipitous drop of the week belonged to The Flash, as the DC and Warner Bros. blockbuster starring Ezra Miller in the title role experienced a 72 percent drop, from its $55 million opening last week to this week's $15.2 million intake.
