The Voice: John Legend sends Azan, Lila Forde and Mac Royals to the Top 12 as ... trends now

Just one night after Reba McEntire and Gwen Stefani chose three singers each to move ahead, John Legend closed out the Playoff round in NBC's The Voice

Nial Horan kicked off the Playoffs last Tuesday, sending Huntley, Nini Iris and Mara Justine to the Top 12.

Monday's episode showed Reba McEntire sending Jordan Rainer, Jacquie Roar and Noah Spencer through to the semi-finals, with Gwen Stefani choosing Bias, Tanner Massey and Kara Tenae.

Tuesday's new episode closed out the Playoffs with John Legend's team, as he's forced to whittle his team of six down to just three.

He ultimately selected Azan, Lila Forde and Mac Royals to move on, while sending home a trio of female singers - Kristen Brown, Kaylee Shimizu and Taylor Deneen.

The episode begins with John Legend calling Azan, making her his Super Save for the season, as she responds with excitement.

John meets with his six team members, stating, 'The Season 24 playoffs, it's Team Legend's turn to go. We are the show tonight. It's only Team Legend. So now all the pressure's on me. It's gonna be all fun and games until I have to make a decision at the end.'

Kristen says in confession, 'With the teams cutting into half, the stakes are even higher. Butterflies are gonna be happening. It's gonna be a whole thing.'

John adds, 'The most important thing -- Who steps up to the plate and delivers in this moment. Because if you deliver here, then I know you can deliver for me in the lives, too. You can do it. I know you can.'

A week earlier, John meets up with Azan, to get ready for her Playoff performance, where she's singing Miguel's Adorn.

'Azán's voice is silky smooth. She has a really soulful, neo-soul vibe, but also, she's my favorite live performer out of all my artists. So I had to bring her back to Team Legend with my super save,' John says in confession.

Azan - who was stolen by Niall Horan before John made her his Super Save, says in confession, 'From blinds to playoffs, it's just been a whole emotional roller coaster of a journey. But I still feel like a winner because I'm still here. I'm so beyond grateful for John. And now I have to prove why I should represent Team Legend in the Top 12.'

Azan adds of her song choice, 'The song is about making somebody feel even more beautiful than what they already are by loving them. I know, with my spouse, I want them to feel like they're on top of the world all the time. As an artist, I'm a big lyricist. I'm all about, like, falling in love and passionate, soulful songs. I just want to showcase that to the world. I want people to feel me when I sing this song.'

John adds, 'Best thing about the way Miguel sings this song is there's so much swag on it. Yeah. And when you hold the notes too long, it sounds too earnest.'

Before the performance, John adds, 'This really might be her best performance. She sounded really good in rehearsal,' which Niall agreed with after the performance.

'That was your best performance by miles. Oh, my God, you're gonna make me cry. I'm so glad that John had the super save and you're still here. The runs, so tasteful. Wow. Just whoo! Oh, my God,' Niall said.

Reba McEntire adds, 'Wow, what a performance. Your stage presence is just so refreshing. Thank you. I couldn't take my eyes off of you. Thank you. You're absolutely gorgeous, but your voice is incredible. Way to go. Great performance.'

Gwen Stefani adds, 'To walk in the way that you did and sing that kind of a song with such ease and being sexy and swaggy, it was really, really beautiful. Really good.'

Azan's coach John Legend said, 'Oh, my God. That was literally perfect. There is nothing that I would edit, change, and I'm always editing and changing. For you to completely nail it A-plus-plus, 100%, you just made a great statement for yourself. You are formidable, undeniable. You're a real talent, and I am so impressed with you.'

John adds in confession, 'I am so glad I picked Azán as my Super Save. She walks out there with such stage presence. It's sexy. It's silky smooth. What a moment to have your best performance of the competition. So good.'

Niall adds, 'I knew it was going to be good, but I didn't think it was going to be that good,' adding, 'She could really be a threat in the live shows.'

Next up is Legend's only country artist, Kristen Brown, who he stole from Gwen earlier in the season.

Gwen says in confession, 'Gwen: Kristen, she's just so lovable. She has so much taste. It was really hard for me to watch Kristen go over to John, but I'm just really happy that she's still on the show.'

Kristen is singing Lady A's Need You Now, as John reveals in confession, 'Kristen's voice has range and power, and I know how much our fans love country. I made a good choice stealing Kristen.'

Kristen adds in rehearsal that she sings this song, 'at least four times a week in shows,' as she adds in confession, 'I've done a lot of the big, belty songs. And this one really strips it all down. It's my first sad song. I can't wait to show that side of me.'

'I'm so grateful for the opportunity to still be here for playoffs. Back home, I produce all my own music, so I write the songs on my guitar, record my own vocal. I'll edit that, send it for mixing. It's a lot of steps, but I love being a part of every single aspect of it. I really want to prove to John that I do deserve to be here, and I want to make him proud for taking on a country girl,' she says.

John was very impressed with her rehearsal, adding, 'If you sing it like what you're doing now in rehearsal, you're going to be great.'

All of the judges were impressed by her performance, with Niall Horan stating, 'That song is absolutely perfect for you. To hold your breath and have enough breath control at that octave is quite tough. And you smashed both of those first opening lines. Unbelievable job.'

Gwen Stefani admitted, 'I'm stupid, because... I'm the one that let her go. Just the dynamics in your voice and just the power at the end, everything about the performance was perfect. America just completely melted over you right now.'

Reba added, 'You made all the country folks very proud. You represented country music so well. I think you need to go to the top.'

Lady A: Kristen is singing Lady A's Need You Now, as John reveals in confession, 'Kristen's voice has range and power, and I know how much our fans love country. I made a good choice stealing Kristen'

John adds, 'I stole you for a reason. And this was just another level. Having the finesse and the breath control to do what you did early in the song and be just flawless, we were all looking at each other like, 'Wow.' It was just perfectly executed.'

After the performance, Reba admits in confession, 'Kristen's going to be a heavy contender. I hope John puts her through. From what I've seen so far, Team Legend's incredible. It's going to be hard for John to pick three.'

Next up is Kaylee Shimizu, who is singing the challenging song You Put a Move On My Heart by Quincy Jones and Tamia, a song which John admits, 'very few singers can pull off.'

John adds in confession, 'No one can sing like Kaylee. She can hit all of these big, big notes. She's so special.'

Kaylee admits, 'I'm challenging myself with this song. There's no more saves. There's no more steals. It's just me and my performance.'

John adds in rehearsal, 'You're like 17 years old, and you're like, 'I'm young.' 'I haven't experienced a lot of the things that are in these songs.' But there's still a way for you to find, like, emotional connection to it.'

Kaylee adds, 'When I think of true, genuine love, I think about my sisters. My sisters mean... the world to me, being that I'm the oldest,' as she starts choking up.

She adds in confession, 'The other day, my sister texted me out of nowhere, and she was like, 'Kaylee, I just want to let you know that I'm so proud of you, you're doing big things, and I know you always dreamed of this, and I'm always supporting you.' I was like, 'Aww.' I tried not to cry when I read that. I was like, 'Ooh, dang.' I love them so much.'

They show a video of Kaylee's sisters, with one saying, 'Kaylee, you're so talented, and I want to sing like you. Get it, girl! You're the best big tiny sister. I'm excited to see you onstage tonight. We love you.'

After the powerful performance, Reba remarked, 'I can't believe the range you have. It's just out of this world. Yeah, it's crazy. And I hope you have a wonderful time with your career, 'cause you are destined for stardom.'

Niall adds, 'Every time you try something different, it's always really good. And to be 17 years old and to have, 'Oh, come on, give me any song. I'll sing it.' Like, you've made John's decision very difficult.'

Her coach John adds, 'It really is phenomenal that you are the age that you are and your voice has this much control and depth and range. Your low voice is really gorgeous. I love the warmth in it. And then, the fact that you can do all of that and then go to those notes in the stratosphere that almost no one on the planet can hit, you're ready for this. You're ready to be a big star. You're so special, Kaylee.'

Next up for Team Legend is Taylor Deneen, who John stole in the Knockout round, who is singing Get Here by Oleta Adams.

'I had to save Taylor. She's so good. I've loved her since the blinds. Taylor brings that sweet, soulful power in her voice,' John says in confession.

Taylor asks, 'At this point in the competition, what else could you be looking for in this performance to help me elevate it?'

John adds, 'Everybody can sing who's in the playoffs. The real question is, who can connect to the audience? We want to feel your passion. We want to feel your emotion. We want to feel your connection to the song.

Talented: After the powerful performance, Reba remarked, 'I can't believe the range you have. It's just out of this world. Yeah, it's crazy. And I hope you have a wonderful time with your career, 'cause you are destined for stardom'
