EXCLUSIVE: The sharp suits are history, the famous red hair is now long and ... trends now
On-screen he was dapper, his sharp suits defining the character he played for a decade.
But, as exclusive DailyMail.com pictures show, 11 years after he suddenly retired from show business he doesn't have to care so much about how he looks.
His signature red hair, always short and neat in two iconic police dramas has now grown out, the suits are replaced by a hoodie and jogging pants and the sunglasses he used to devastating effect as a prop are gone and round spectacles have taken their place.
Even the fast cars are history. A practical Ford Flex SUV is now his wheels of choice.
So who is this former star of TV police dramas who gave up stage and screen for a new life in the art business?
DailyMail.com spotted this actor near his home in LA's San Fernando Valley as he ran errands

It's none other than David Caruso, the actor who burst on the scene as Detective John Kelly in NYPD Blue and then spent a decade as another cop, Lieutenant Horatio Caine on CSI: Miami.
Caruso, 67, decided he had had enough of fame once his CSI spinoff was cancelled in 2012. His disappearing act was so successful that he hasn't been photographed publicly since 2016.
He had appeared on all 232 episodes of CSI: Miami and was known for biting one-line quips, as well as his sharp dressing and – of course – a talent for crime-busting.
He also became famous for the way he used his sunglasses thanks to his habit of taking them off or putting them on while delivering a witty line.
It became so noticeable, the New York Times called him 'the most dedicated modern practitioner of glasses business,' adding: he had 'spent a decade applying sunglasses to punctuate his crude puns about fresh corpses.'
The actor - who has been married several times - was dressed casually and accompanied by a woman companion

Post acting, Caruso briefly opened an art gallery in the LA suburb Westlake Village but has since closed it down and is now living off the $35m fortune he amassed during his acting career. He also opened a clothing store in Miami.
But while he no longer acts, Caruso hasn't totally said goodbye to his thespian past, with a source telling DailyMail.com he has framed photos of himself in character inside his garage.
The insider said: 'He has a photo of himself from his time on CSI Miami and another from Proof of Life – two of his biggest hits. Both are hung up in his garage.'
