Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has spoken out about how the atmosphere has changed behind-the-scenes ahead of the semi-final.

Four celebrities - Bobby Brazier, Annabel Croft, Ellie Leach and Layton Williams - are set to compete in Saturday's upcoming show after Nigel Harman was forced to withdraw from the show.

After Nigel's exit - which comes amid claims he had a furious row with his wife over his disappointing Blackpool score - Craig said it is now 'very quiet' backstage.

The judge, 50, spoke of how hosts Claudia Winkleman, 51, and Tess Daly, 54, are doing their best to quash the nerves as the competition ramps up with two weeks till the final.

Craig told Best Magazine: 'Claudia’s like The Mothership right now, making the celebs laugh and giving out hugs.

'Tess, too - but she’s more calming. They work well to prepare the nervous couples before they go on. It’s also gone quiet, backstage – there aren’t many pairs left, everyone’s focused on the prize.'

Craig's comments come after reports the Strictly crew relieved' after Nigel quit the show 'due to medical reasons' just hours before the live show on Saturday.

The actor, 50, who had been taking part in the competition alongside professional partner Katya Jones, 34, was forced to pull out after trying to perform a stunt in rehearsals, which left him with a rib injury.

Following his exit, it was reported how the Casualty star would often have 'mood swings' causing bad feelings amongst the staff backstage.

Nigel was previously spotted storming off the dance floor after receiving a disappointing score for his performance in Blackpool.

A source told The Sun how the actor 'takes himself very seriously' as a performer and throws himself into his routines fully.

They said: 'He's very emotional if things don't go as he hoped. That often means that he can be like a bear with a sore head backstage.

'Viewers got a glimpse of that when he received disappointing scores for their quickstep in Blackpool.

'The crew and pros on the show are like a close family and the celebrities are welcomed into that. But if someone upsets that long-standing dynamic it can create bad feeling.'
