Charlotte Hawkins reveals she is 'full of admiration' for Kate Garraway after ... trends now

Charlotte Hawkins has opened up about her admiration for fellow Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway after her husband Derek Draper's passing in January. 

Kate's latest documentary Kate Garraway: Derek's Story aired on ITV on Tuesday, as the 56-year-old chronicled the former political lobbyist's final year of life as he continued to battle the detrimental effects of long Covid after being left bed-bound by the virus. 

Speaking about Kate's strength and resilience, Charlotte revealed she is 'full of admiration' for her friend and colleague who has has continued to appear on GMB and publicly spoken out about her situation throughout Derek's illness. 

In an interview with Prima, Charlotte said: 'I'm full of admiration for how Kate has kept everything going. She wanted to be strong for Derek and the family. 

'It's love that keeps you going and gets you through situations like that – love for the person you're caring for, for your family that you need to be strong for and for the people around you who are helping to support you.'

Charlotte also opened up about her own experiences with grief as she revealed how hard it was losing her dad back in 2015. 

Her dad, Frank, died aged 78 after a three-year battle with Motor Neurone Disease and she confessed that period of her life was 'extremely hard'. 

'Losing my dad in 2015 was extremely hard. [My daughter] Ella Rose was born a month later and I didn't want her to feel my sadness, so I tried to embrace the amazing joy when she was born. 

'But you can't hide from grief and it's always going to catch up with you. 

'I was on an emotional rollercoaster for some time after that, and it took me a long time to learn to live with my grief.'
