While most of the world has seen Oppenheimer, the people of Japan are finally getting their first look at the film... with an impressive box office debut.
Oppenheimer - which debuted in the U.S. and most global markets back in July - took in $2.5 million in its opening weekend in Japan, via Variety.
The film from director Christopher Nolan - who with his wife/producer Emma Thomas are slated to be knighted - opened in 343 theaters in Japan.
It took third place at the box office, behind local films - horror film Strange House and animated film Haikyu.
The tally also represents the highest opening for an American-made film in Japan this year, ahead of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom ($1.6 million) and Dune: Part Two ($1.3 million).
