Kate Winslet gushes over Rufus Sewell as she recalls forgotten real-life ... trends now

Kate Winslet has opened up about her forgotten real life romance with Scoop star Rufus Sewell. 

The actors famously starred in The Holiday together where Rufus' character Jasper, left Kate's character Iris, who was in love with him, heartbroken by announcing his engagement to another woman at Christmas. 

However, off screen years before filming for the Christmas classic, the pair enjoyed a brief romance after they met while working together at the Royal Shakespeare Company in the early 1990s. 

Appearing on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Virgin Radio on Monday, Kate brought up their past romance as Chris asked whether the 48-year-old has had a chance to watch Netflix's Scoop yet, which sees Rufus star as Prince Andrew. 

Kate replied: 'No. But I bumped into Gillian Anderson at an event not very long ago, and I was asking her about it.

'And Rufus Sewell is so terrific, you know, I used to go out with Rufus Sewell years ago. Back in the day, a long time ago, I think I must have been 21 or something.' 

Gushing over her former flame, she continued: 'He's so fantastic and to see him front and centre in a way that I think we haven't done on British television for a long, long time, very long time, I'm really, really excited to see what he does.'

Kate and Rufus, 57, dated for a three months after she split from her first love Stephen Tredre in 1995, who later died of bone cancer in 1997. 

She later said: 'We're very good friends but it was never a serious relationship.' 

The pair have remained pals since and went on to film The Holiday together in 2006. 

Meanwhile Rufus celebrated a surprise marriage proposal to long-time girlfriend Vivian Benitez - who is 31-years his junior - back in December. 

Taking to Instagram Rufus stunned his predominantly female fanbase by announcing the news while showing off 27-year old Vivian's ring.
