The Chase Australia star Anne 'The Governess' Hegerty opened up on Monday about how her difficult childhood helped shape her into the legendary quizmaster she is.

The TV personality, 65, revealed that she is delighted with her current life as a famous quizmaster, after overcoming a very challenging childhood.

'I didn't really have a particularly good childhood. The music was better, but there's not much else that was better when I was a kid, to be honest,' she told 7News.

'There are so many people my age who sort of look back nostalgically to earlier times. And I look at them and think, "No, you think it was better because your joints didn't ache".'

The London-born star admitted she had a difficult relationship with her parents growing up, which made her determined to prove herself.
