Russell Crowe is a possessed actor in a cursed movie production alongside ... trends now

Russell Crowe is returning to the horror genre in the eerie first trailer of the upcoming film The Exorcism. 

The trailer featuring the Gladiator star — who previously played chief exorcist for the Vatican in the 2023 horror movie The Pope's Exorcist — was released on Thursday.

In it, the Oscar winner, 60, wears the clerical collar once again, this time as actor Anthony Miller, who starts to unravel while playing a priest on a cursed film set.

When his estranged daughter Lee Miller (Ryan Simpkins) begins to suspect that her father's troubles go beyond a relapse into former addiction issues, she attempts to get help from a real priest.

The film — directed by Joshua John Miller — also stars Sam Worthington, Chloe Bailey, Adam Goldberg and David Hyde Pierce.

The trailer starts out with Crowe during confession, as he says, 'Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. It's a job, coming to me off the back of somebody else's tragedy.'

The scene switches to Crowe as he flips through the script of the movie he is shooting, which has scribbles and drawings all over it, with one reading, 'God is dead!! Satan lives.'

Another page reads, 'You know you will not be saved.'

The clip proceeds to show Crowe and his onscreen daughter Lee as they arrive on set.

There, they meet Blake Holloway (Chloe) who plays a possessed girl in the movie they are shooting and is in the middle of being cleansed via a burning sage ritual.

'So what's with the sage?' Lee asks Blake.

'Have you forgotten what kind of movie we're making?' Blake replies.

'All kinds of messed up stuff happened when they were making movies like The Omen, or The Exorcist. And the guy your dad replaced,' she says, as the clip shows a man falling down to his death, while a voice says, 'Everything's cursed.'
