Meet the Met Gala haters: How stars like Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Garner and ... trends now

The Met Gala takes place at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City on Monday evening.

And there is supposed to be a massive crowd attending.

The co-chairs are Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth.

Rihanna hinted she will be there. She'll likely be accompanied by her partner A$AP Rocky. Other high-profile partners likely to attend, because their significant others are hosting: Ben Affleck and Tom Holland. Lily Gladstone has said she will attend. Dua Lipa is going.

This year's theme is The Garden of Time, inspired by J.G. Ballard's 1962 short story of the same name. Florals are expected this time around as well as vintage.

It's called 'Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.' It includes 250 items from The Costume Institute´s permanent collection, including some garments very rarely seen in public. The exhibit opens to the public Friday and runs through Sept. 2.

There is excitement all around the event.

But in past years some stars have said that they were not fond of the party that is overseen by Vogue editor Anna Wintour. Here is a look at the haters.

Gwyneth Paltrow was the first big star who put down the party which was surprising because she has been on the cover of Vogue many times.

'I'm never going again. It was so un-fun. It was boiling. It was too crowded. I did not enjoy it at all. I'm never going again,' the Iron Man actress  said in 2013.

But then the GOOP founder went back in 2017 and 2019.

Jennifer Garner went in 2007 and never showed up again.

The 13 Going On 30 star said during Vogue's Beauty Secret series: 'I found it a little scary, so I haven't been back.' 

The ex of Ben Affleck also noted that it was 'majestic and special' night.

Ben's current wife has been many times - with Diddy, Casper Smart, Marc Anthony, Alex Rodriguez as well as Ben. 

Amy Schumer told Howard Stern in 2016 , 'I don't like it.' She added, 'I have no interest in fashion. I like the idea of coming up with a way to dress that's more comfortable, that looks cool, that sounds good to me. 

'But other than that, I don't care.'

 She said it was 'like punishment,' saying 'it's people doing an impression of having a conversation … I don't like the farce. We're dressed up like a bunch of f***ing a**holes.' She attended again in 2017.

Speaking with Schumer, Lena Dunham said, 'You and I were literally sitting across from each other at the Met Ball, and it was like a crazy countdown to when we could escape.' 

She then said of Kim Kardashian's ex Odell Beckham Jr: 'It was so amazing because it was like he looked at me and he determined I was not the shape of a woman by his standards … I was like, "This should be called the Metropolitan Museum of Getting Rejected by Athletes."'

Demi Lovato had 'a terrible experience,' when she went in 2016. 'This one celebrity was a complete b***h and was miserable to be around. It was very cliquey. I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink.' She went to an AA meeting afterwards. 

Priyanka Chopra said: 'The Met's always like, so much work for just that carpet moment...But..I have a complaint. 

'There was no bread for dinner. No bread for dinner, I was so hungry after.' 

'My husband [Nick Jonas] ordered pizza by the time we got back to the hotel, so we were fine.' She then quipped: 'There goes my invite for next year.'

Lizzo said the event was 'really stingy with the liquor.'

Sza says she 'snuck out the back as soon as Lenny Kravitz hit the stage because I was feeling very like, "Whoa, my anxiety's going crazy."'

Madonna's daughter Lourdes Leon was grateful to attend in 2021 but said: 'You're just shoved into a room with all these famous people and you're supposed to talk to them and be their friend, even though you don't f***ing know them. That's not my vibe.' She added: 'I'm sure it's fun if you're someone who is friends with a lot of famous people, but I'm not. I didn't know who the f*** to talk to. I felt so awkward that I literally called my boyfriend in the middle of it.'

Tin a Fey said: 'It is such a jerk parade. If you had a million arms and all the people you would punch in the whole world, they're all there.' 

The star who are banned from the Met Gala are Tim Gunn and Donald Trump.
