The Crown reportedly could be returning as a miniseries or film following the huge success of Netflix movie, Scoop.

The film hit the streamer last month, depicting Prince Andrew's infamous Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis and the behind-the-scenes tension. 

Starring Gillian Anderson and Billie Piper, Scoop received positive reviews from critic and viewers alike.

It has now been alleged that the success of the film has been seen as proof that there is still an appetite for stories about the royal family.

The Sun reports that executives want to take advantage of this and bring back the hit TV series, The Crown.

The period drama only aired its final episodes in December, bringing the infamous show about the British royal family to a close.

But the success of Scoop could mean that there will be new installments of The Crown, but in a shortened format, such as a limited series or film.

A TV insider told The Sun: 'The consensus was that the royal drama seemed to wane the closer it came to modern day and retelling multiple stories that so many were familiar with.

'But Scoop showed that rather than doing this in a drawn-out, ten-part series, focusing instead on one mom­ent in time seemed to hook people.
