Prince's iconic Cloud 3 expected to sell for up to $400,000-$600,000 in an upcoming auction slated for later this month, Julien's Auctions said Tuesday.

The auction house said Tuesday that the musical instrument will join the other treasures up for sale in its MUSIC ICONS auction slated for May 29-May 30, including items from late icons Michael Jackson and John Lennon.

The musical instrument was 'one of Prince's centerpiece instruments' he used on multiple tours at the apex of his popularity in the 1980s and 1990s, the auction house said.

Among the tours he played it on included 1984-1985's Purple Rain tour, 1986's Parade tour, 1987's Sign of the Times tour, the Lovesexy tour in 1988-1999, and 1992's Diamonds & Pearls tour, according to Julien's.

The guitar - described by the auction house as 'an iconic symbol' of Prince's 'titanic career and rock 'n' roll heritage itself' - will be sold in an auction stemming from the Hard Rock Cafe in New York and online at Juliensauctions.com.

Julien's said it 'verified Cloud 3's provenance by conducting a CT scan' on the guitar, and speaking with luthier Dave Rusan, who helped create it.

The musical instrument 'remains fully playable and carries a certificate of authenticity from Paisley Park,' the auction house said.

The instrument has past been sold twice, Julien's said: via a 2005 Christie's auction for $5,247.31; and later, for more than $73,000 via an eBay auction.

It is expected to sell for between $400,000-$600,000 following a number of other high-profile sales the auction house has conducted involving Prince items.

Among them include a yellow Cloud for $225,000; a Blue Angel Cloud 2 for $563,500, and a blue teal Cloud for a record-setting $700,000, according to Julien's.

'Our company proudly stands by our proven track record in sourcing and presenting instruments of unparalleled historical significance,' Julien's Auctions CEO David Goodman said in a statement Tuesday, 'and Prince's Cloud 3 now joins this esteemed category.

'With this guitar and our other exceptional offerings, Julien's has curated a spectacular collection of the greatest stage-played guitars and historical music artifacts that truly represent a pantheon of music royalty.'

Before it is sold, Prince's yellow guitar will be on exhibition from May 15-May 18 at the Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum in
