Tae Lewis won the Instant Save on Tuesday's episode of The Voice and gave new coaches Dan + Shay an advantage headed into the semifinals.

The 31-year-old singer from Goldsboro, North, Carolina, found himself in the bottom four after the Top 12 performed on Monday and faced elimination along with L. Rodgers, Nadège and Zoe Levert.

Tae was the last of the four to perform during the Instant Save and belted out 'The Church on Cumberland Road' by Shenandoah.

Show host Carson Daly, 50, afterward asked Dan + Shay if they had anything to say to Tae after his spirited performance.

Dan Smyers, 36, told Tae that it was a 'finale performance' and they were proud of him.

'I just feel like I went to church, man,' Shay Mooney, 32, told Tae.

Carson gathered Tae along with L. Rodgers, 34, of Baltimore, Zoe, 21, of New Orleans, and Nadege, 26, of Wellington, Florida, on stage as the five-minute voting period opened.

He then revealed at the end of the one-hour episode that Tae had advanced to the semis as part of the top nine.

Tae's win gave new coaches Dan + Shay three contestants in the semis while John Legend, Reba McEntire and Chance The Rapper each had two contestants remaining on their teams.

The episode opened with Reba, 69, performing her new song I Can't and John, 45, later performed his song Ordinary People on the 20th anniversary of its recording.

Carson revealed early that Reba's singer Asher HaVon, 32, of Selma, Alabama, was the first to make it into the semis after his performance on Monday of I'll Make Love To You by Boyz II Men.

Chance's singer Maddie Jane, 25, of Chicago, was the next to make it into the semis.

John's soulful singer Nathan Chester, 28, of Chicago, found out from Carson that he was the third into the top nine.
