One of the stars of Bluey has revealed that the Australian made hit was almost 'Americanised' in order to win over a Stateside audience.

Performer Megan Washington, 38, who voices the character Calypso in the animated series, said that the show's creators once discussed whether the Aussie hit would have to be re-done with American voices to make it more 'acceptable' for U.S. viewers.

But the ARIA award winning singer said that in the end, the show was able to maintain its unique character and identity, without compromise.

Washington revealed the shocking behind the scenes controversy during an appearance on KIIS FM 97.3 breakfast show Robin and Kip.

The actress, who has been voicing the character of the loveable teacher Calypso for six years, said she remembers discussing accents in the show's production offices, right from the very beginning.

Washington added that she felt it was really inspiring that in the end Bluey's creators were able to 'stick to their guns' and use Aussie accents and Down Under slang terms like 'dunny' and 'bin chicken'.
