In what is one of the biggest weeks of the year, Taika ensured he didn't steal the spotlight from the British star.
As they graced the Met carpet earlier this week, Taika made headlines for becoming Rita's biggest supporting act.
He was seen standing closely behind Rita, fixing her barely-there outfit whilst she posed for the cameras.
Taika was previously married to film producer wife Chelsea Winstanley for six years before they separately quietly in 2018.
Taika and Chelsea share two daughters: 12-year-old Te Hinekāhu and eight-year-old Matewa Kiritapu.
