Katherine Schwarzenegger threw shade at the Met Gala by uploading a throwback photo of her mother, Maria Shriver, attending the annual event 23 years earlier on her Instagram stories.

The author, 34 - who recently sparked outrage when she and husband Chris Pratt tore down historic 1950s LA home - reposted an image uploaded by Shriver when she attended the Met Gala back in 2001.

Above the picture, Katherine - who is also the daughter of Arnold Schwarzenegger - added the text, 'When the met gala was chic and classy.'

In Maria's post, she had penned, 'It's the first Monday in May and the Met Gala is underway! Things were a little more low key when I attended back in 2001, but I thought I would share some photos from that wonderful night.'

'Not only did I get to wear this beautiful dress, but I got to attend with both my parents, as well as my cousin, Caroline.'

In conclusion, the former First Lady of California asked her followers, 'What do you think: would we rock the red carpet in these same looks tonight?'

The images also showed Shriver wearing a sleeveless, lilac gown that clung to her frame and also draped a sheer shawl around her shoulders.

Her hair had been styled into a classic up do, easily revealing a pair of dangly, sparkling earrings that offered a flashy flare to the look.

The 2024 Met Gala took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to celebrate its new exhibition called Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, while the dress code for guests was The Garden of Time.

A number of celebrities were in attendance earlier this week on Monday, including Zendaya - who wowed in three breathtaking ensembles - as well as Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, Gigi Hadid, Cardi B, and Kendall Jenner.

Some stars strutted on the red carpet in risqué ensembles, such as Rita Ora, Doja Cat and also Emily Ratajkowski. Ora donned a nude-colored outfit with strips of colorful fabric that fell in the middle and behind her back.

The Streets hitmaker donned a white dress that clung to her frame while her makeup portrayed mascara running down her face. And the model turned heads in a sheer, silver-patterned gown that left little to the imagination.

However, others were notably absent from the festivities, such as Selena Gomez - who was 'busy working,' a source recently confirmed to People on Tuesday.

The actress was not the only A-list celebrity to opt out of the gala, with other stars such as Khloe Kardashian, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Rihanna and Taylor Swift not seen on the red carpet.
