Martine McCutcheon admits hurt over EastEnders exit

Her exit from EastEnders in 1998 was a controversial one, since she only found out she was leaving when a radio host announced it.

And 19 years on, Martine McCutcheon revealed that the abrupt departure still bothers her, as she admitted to being 'so embarrassed' by how it was handled.

The 41-year-old actress, who played Tiffany Mitchell on the BBC soap for four years, lamented the fact that 'at any time they can get rid of you'.

Martine's character Tiffany caused shockwaves in the soap world when she was run down and killed by Frank Butcher on New Year's Eve.

And recalling her reaction to it, she told The Mirror: 'As an actress you never take for granted that you are ever going to be in a job for more than two minutes, but it was the way I was told by listening to the radio.'

Martine added that she felt humiliated as her co-stars asked her why she hadn't told them, revealing: 'None of the other cast members believed me.

'They were like, "I cannot believe you didn't tell us!" and I was like, "No I am so embarrassed!"

Martine, who is married to Jack McManus and has a two-year-old son Rafferty with him, shot to fame aged 18 playing Tiffany on the soap.
