Sophie Monk was 'egotistical' in her heyday

She was thrust into the global spotlight in the early 1990s thanks to the success of pop girl-group Bardot. 

And Sophie Monk, 37, has spoken about the struggles of her heyday, admitting that she was plagued by insecurities.

'I started working when I was a teenager, and I really missed out in my 20s,' she told  told The Daily Telegraph this week.

She went on: 'I only lived and breathed my industry and I kind of got tired of bumping into egotistical people to be honest — like me. I like to think I pulled myself down to earth now — I think I was insecure.' 

Speaking to the publication about her decision to become Australia's third Bachelorette, Sophie explained that she felt dating on television would be an easier option than dating in real life. 

'I can't go on the social media apps — on Tinder and those things — it'll be printed everywhere.
