Late actor Heath Ledger to be honoured at G'Day USA Gala

In January it will be 10 years since acting legend Heath Ledger died.

And the former Australian star will be honoured next month in Los Angeles at the prestigious G'Day USA Gala.

According to Sydney Confidential, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop made the announcement at the official launch for the gala in Sydney on Friday.

Heath was just 28 when he passed away from an accidental overdose in 2008 leaving behind a then two-year-old daughter, Matilda. 

Heath began his acting career in the early 90s in TV roles and soon became a household name thanks to starring in 10 Things I Hate About You.

He went on to appear in 19 films, including Candy, Brokeback Mountain and A Knight's Tale.
