And Sue Cleaver - who plays Phelan's wife Eileen - revealed she was 'utterly exhausted' after filming the harrowing scenes that saw Eileen stamp on her husband's hand until he fell from a cliff's edge into the sea.
Chatting to The Mirror, the 54-year-old confessed that she shut herself away after the cameras stopped rolling, and couldn't speak to her partner a day after the scene ended.

Taxi-controller Eileen - who first arrived on the Cobbles in 2000 - has been at the centre of Pat's dark story lines for two years, and was finally exposed to his murderous ways by her colleague Tim, leading her to confront Pat at a remote lighthouse in Cumbria.
Of her grueling final scenes with Pat - played by Connor McIntyre - Sue admitted: 'To be honest I just collapsed when I got home. I shut the doors and didn't want to see anybody.'
'Please don't speak to me' she told her partner. 'I can't speak. I can't actually form the words. Why don't you go to the pub for an hour? In fact, why don't you go to the pub for 12 hours.'

The intense final scenes between Eileen and Pat were filmed in horrendous weather conditions in the early hours of the morning, with wind and rail lashing down on the cast and crew.
Despite the punishing ordeal, Sue explained that the two-year build up to the incredible climax was a 'joy to film' but left her feeling exhausted.
