A look back over Masterchef's season one contestants

They were the first group of talented amateur chefs to compete in the MasterChef Australia kitchen back in 2009.

And ahead of the upcoming tenth season, Daily Mail Australia looks at how the original line-up is doing nine years after the show aired.

From Julie Goodwin's drink-driving arrest to Justine Schofield's failed romance with presenter Matt Doran, the first-round contestants have certainly left their mark.

Julie Goodwin

Perhaps the most high-profile contestant is original winner Julie, who surprised fans last month when she was charged with mid-range drink-driving after fleeing the police and getting caught at more than double the legal limit.

She did a U-turn away from a random breath test site and was chased by officers to a nearby side street in North Gosford, on the NSW Central Coast.

Julie had been driving home from a 'celebratory function' that she was catering for when she was stopped by police and failed the test.

In a lengthy statement following her arrest, Julie explained that she felt 'great shame and regret' and claimed her actions were 'completely out of character'.

She wrote: 'I would like to apologise to everyone that has supported me over many years, I have let you all down.'

The chef has enjoyed enormous success since winning MasterChef, writing six cookbooks, hosting the TV show Home Cooked! With Julie Goodwin and opening her own cooking school, Julie's Place.

'MasterChef 100 per cent makes dreams come true,' she said last year.

'I feel so blessed every single day to have gone through that experience, and to be where I am today, living and breathing what I love.'

Poh Ling Yeow

Meanwhile, Poh Ling Yeow has enjoyed single-name fame since placing second in season one of MasterChef.

She fronts the ABC TV show Poh's Kitchen and SBS's Poh and Co., co-owns a cafe and is a writer of cookbooks and a children's book.

The much-loved personality also found love on MasterChef, marrying a man she met on the show.

She made headlines after opening a cafe in Adelaide Central Market in 2015 with her ex-husband of nine years Matt Phipps, who she still describes as her best friend.
