Gogglebox's Matty Fahd successfully raises bail with help of fans

Gogglebox star Matty Fahd has thanked fans after they helped him successfully exceed his $1,000 bail bond.

The 31-year-old will now only have to spend one night in Ashfield's Yasmar Detention Centre.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, he said he expects the overnight stint to be a 'challenge,' adding: 'I feel good going in.'

His thank you message comes after he revealed his decision to voluntarily go to prison on Friday, as part of a charity initiative from White Lion and Bail Out.

The Gogglebox star was tasked with raising $1,000, which will go towards the organisations' ongoing fight to break the cycle of at-risk youth ending up behind bars.

'In order for me to be released out the next morning, I need to raise $1,000 bail and I need your help to get that and hopefully a lot more!' he wrote on Instagram Wednesday.

Matty has since confirmed to Daily Mail Australia that he has exceeded that benchmark - his fundraising total current sitting above $2,000.

'I’ve exceeded my bail amount and impressed by the generosity of my friends, family and Gogglebox community,' he said on Thursday.

While the prison no longer holds criminals, his overnight stay will be no cakewalk, as facilities have been kept in the same condition.
