Poldark's Eleanor Tomlinson and Drake Cane split up

As Demelza in the BBC's hit Sunday night series Poldark, Eleanor Tomlinson's marriage is a sea of troubles. Off-screen, her love life is just as stormy.

I can disclose that the 26-year-old actress has split up with Harry Richardson, 25, who plays her brother, Drake Carne, in the 18th‑century costume drama, which returns next weekend.

'They are no longer together,' confirms one of Harry's friends.

The pair embarked on a passionate romance last year after Harry joined the Poldark team.

They managed to keep their relationship secret from fellow members of the cast and crew while filming in Cornwall, but decided to go public last summer.

Eleanor, who is the daughter of singer Judith Hibbert and actor Malcolm Tomlinson, was pictured kissing Harry in Wimbledon, South-West London, and they were later spotted embracing at a food festival.

It wasn't Eleanor's first love affair on the Poldark set. She previously enjoyed a two-year romance with equestrian Ben Atkinson, 24, after he worked as a stunt double for Aidan Turner, who plays her on-screen husband, Ross Poldark.

Wouldn't it be lovely if Eleanor now struck up a real-life romance with dashing Aidan, 34? The chances seem slim, however, as the Irishman is reportedly engaged to a 24-year-old law graduate, whose identity remains secret.

At least Eleanor remains optimistic about romance.

'I'm one of those people who loves love,' she declares. 'I love that it's so much fun, and yet a complete pain in the a***.'

No socks, Spencer? It won't do at Ascot!

Pippa Middleton's brother-in-law, former Made In Chelsea lothario Spencer Matthews, made a bold sartorial statement when he attended Ladies' Day at Epsom yesterday.

Dressed in a salmon-pink suit. Eton-educated Spencer, 29, drew attention to his feet by wearing baby-blue tassel loafers and no socks (circled far right).

If he makes it to the Royal Enclosure at Ascot later this month, he needs to make more of an effort: men have been told they must wear socks in accordance with the strict new style guide.

Spencer was joined by his pregnant fiancee, Irish socialite Vogue Williams, 32, and Pippa's marshmallow-maker brother James, 31.

All is not so tranquil in the world of Country Life, I hear.

The magazine's editor, Mark Hedges, 54, has separated from his wife, Stacey, amid claims he's being comforted by a younger woman.

'Mark and I are having time apart,' confirms Stacey, an Australian-born cheesemaker.

F1 billionaire Bernie Ecclestone's erstwhile son-in-law James Stunt is working on his royal connections.

After lending paintings to Prince Charles, he attended a party this week at the Chelsea home of Basia Briggs, where guests included Prince Michael of Kent's daughter, Lady Gabriella Windsor.

It was in honour of Alexander Newley, artist son of Dame Joan Collins, who offered to paint Stunt.

Right-on actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who hectored theatregoers with a four-letter rant about the plight of Syrian refugees after he performed on stage in Hamlet two years ago, has a new reason to feel sanctimonious.

The 41-year-old star of Sherlock and Patrick Melrose has declared he's taking his ethical lifestyle to the next level by becoming a vegan. 'I eat a plant-based diet,' he confirms.

With a precision that would impress detective Holmes, he makes clear his transformation is not yet complete.

'I would say I'm vegan, although not everything I wear is vegan,' admits Cumberbatch, who is working on that as well. He's been seen in vegan boots and a suit made of 'future wool' from an all-vegan luxury menswear brand.

Well, they do say the BBC and the Left‑leaning Guardian are inextricably linked.

Radio 1's new Breakfast Show DJ, Greg James, has become engaged to Bella Mackie, daughter of former Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger.

Headmaster's son James, 32, who courted pop singer Ellie Goulding for two years, made the news public after I contacted him yesterday.

In true Guardianista , it was journalist Bella (pictured with James), 34, who had proposed to him.

'I said yes immediately because she is the smartest, funniest and most beautiful
