Amelia Millie Lucas with terminal brain cancer will undergo open brain surgery ...

A 12-year-old girl with terminal cancer who was given just 12 weeks to live will undergo open brain surgery after kind strangers raised more than $120,000.

Amelia 'Millie' Lucas, from Perth, was tragically diagnosed with an aggressive and malignant brain tumour in January 2016 - the same form of cancer that claimed the life of her seven-year-old cousin in 2007.

Despite undergoing a series of treatments, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy, Millie's brain tumour has doubled in size within four months.

Appearing on Today Tonight, her distraught parents Monica Smirk, 47, and Grant Lucas, 49, claimed doctors in Western Australia have refused to carry out the procedure amid fears of paralysis.

But in a last ditch attempt, world-renowned neurosurgeon Dr Charlie Teo has offered to do the $60,000-$80,000 procedure - but he admitted it will be one of the most difficult surgeries he'll perform yet.
