Katie Piper launches the country's first ever 'live in' burns rehabilitation ...

Katie Piper has launched the country’s first ever live in burns rehabilitation centre through her charity The Katie Piper Foundation.

The author and charity founder, 35, from London, has been working for years behind the scenes to make the facility a reality for those with burns and scars in the UK.

Based at Fairfield Independent Hospital in, St Helens Merseyside, the centre aims to treat twenty patients in the first 12 months of opening.

Care will range from scar management therapy techniques and unrivalled physiotherapy treatment, to mental health support for those who are often hard hit by their burns trauma.

Once the work of the NHS burns service is done, The Katie Piper Foundation rehabilitation centre becomes a sanctuary for a patient’s next steps. Offering patients access to on-site bungalow accommodation the centre quietly opened its doors in 2018.

This centre and programme is the first of its kind in the UK – with similar facilities only in Europe. For nearly 10 years, The Katie Piper Foundation has helped to thousands of burns survivors.

Despite Katie's life changing scars on her face, chest and arms she has gone on to have a successful career in the media - front TV shows, writing books and also appearing on Strictly Come Dancing.

She's also now a mother-of-two, with Belle, five, and Penelope Diane, 18 months - while she married Richard James Sutton in 2015.
