Several brands of hamburger and hot dog buns have been recalled over fears they may contain bits of plastic.

Flower Foods Inc, based in Georgia, issued the voluntary recall after the company found 'small pieces of hard plastic' in its production equipment, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said in a release on Wednesday.

In total, 57 hamburgers buns, hot dog buns, bratwurst buns, dinner rolls and pull-a-part barbecue bread were recalled across 18 states.

Health officials say no one has reported any injuries or illnesses yet from consuming the buns or rolls.
