And why she always uses a measure for her lunchtime gin and tonic. 

Can you run up the stairs?

No. In 2021, I had a hip operation and since then I haven’t been able to stand for long, let alone run.

Get your five a day?

Certainly not. I think five a day is marketing rubbish. 

I have a boiled egg in the morning, and a proper meal at lunchtime, with a gin and tonic. 

 For tea I always have a fruit or two — today, a big orange — and in the evening, an open sandwich. 

My favourite vegetable is spinach, hardly cooked with a spoonful of cream.

Ever dieted?

I used to be a size 10 top and a 12 bottom, and 5ft 7in. 

I’m now 5ft 2in. 

I don’t bother with my weight because a couple of years ago I was prescribed steroids and turned into Tweedledum and Tweedledee. 

The steroids are for COPD [chronic obstructive pulmonary disease]. 

It means that sometimes I have difficulty breathing. 

When I was an art student I smoked cheap Woodbines to be like everyone else. 

Little did I know I was inhaling death.

Any vices?

Because my father was an alcoholic, I always use a measure for my gin.

Any family ailments?

My father died of sclerosis of the liver at 59. 

My mother was 97 when she died after a fall.
