Steve Bruce has experienced nearly everything in a football career spanning more than 40 years. But never before been forced to take cover from a cabbage.
That was what one, rather odd, Aston Villa fan decided to throw at Bruce before a remarkable 3-3 draw against Preston even kicked off, in a bizarre sign of the deepening tension at the club.
Police have since confirmed they are trying to find the supporter who threw the cabbage at him.

For a manager who led Villa to within 90 minutes of the Premier League it was unsavoury and distasteful, if you pardon the pun.
Bruce responded to the incident with understandable anger and admitted for the first time that unrest among supporters would prompt him to consider his position. Although he vowed to battle on.
Villa’s board are understood to be concerned about the worsening atmosphere and Saturday’s trip to Millwall is seen as pivotal.
‘I'll reflect on it and roll my sleeves up, unless I really think it affects the individuals,’ Bruce said.
‘I will battle on. That’s always been my philosophy until told otherwise. The one thing I've always had is the determination to roll up my sleeves and get stuck in. I'll always have a go. But you need results.’
