Ralph Hasenhuttl says James Ward-Prowse is the man to step in for suspended captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg at Chelsea on Wednesday.

Hojbjerg misses Southampton's next four games after his red card for a wild lunge on Fernandinho during the 3-1 defeat by Manchester City.

Hasenhuttl wanted to build his side around the influential Dane, but he feels he has found a replacement in Ward-Prowse.

'He's a flexible player, he can play a lot of positions. He can play at 6, he can also play on the wing like he did in the first-half. 

'It was a very good game in the first-half from him. I'm looking forward that he is now a big opportunity for us.'

Hasenhuttl has had one-on-one meetings with his squad to understand what makes them tick. And Ward-Prowse did enough against City to impress the Saints boss.

'I had a face-to-face meeting with him and told him what I think, what are his strengths and what are his weaknesses.
