'We have to be brave, full of desire and angry': Jurgen Klopp warns Liverpool stars must be ready to give whatever it takes to beat rivals Manchester City Jurgen Klopp has warned his Liverpool stars to give everything to beat Man City Klopp's men go into the game seven points clear of the reigning champions The German told his players to leave everything on the pitch to come out on top Klopp also admitted he has made no special plans for City star Kevin De Bruyne By Max Winters For Mailonline Published: 14:44 GMT, 2 January 2019 | Updated: 14:44 GMT, 2 January 2019 Viewcomments Jurgen Klopp has insisted his Liverpool players must be prepared for one of the toughest games of their careers when they travel to play Premier League title rivals Manchester City on Thursday night. Klopp's men go into the game seven points clear of the reigning champions and have a chance to strengthen their grip on a first domestic league title in 28 years. Despite Liverpool's impressive recent form, in which they have won nine consecutive league matches, Klopp has warned Mohamed Salah and Co they must be prepared to leave everything on the pitch to come out on top. Jurgen Klopp has warned his Liverpool stars to give everything to beat Manchester City ‘It is a normal game against City, one of the most difficult you can play,' Klopp said in his pre-match press conference. 'It’s a strong team with an outstanding manager and that is how it is. We have to be as good as possible, be brave, full of desire, angry but with the knowledge that they are for me, still, the best team in the world. ‘That is 100 per cent my opinion, how they play, what they have achieved, what they will achieve. Nothing has changed, only the points. We are in a good moment, we are a very good football team and that is why we are where we are. It sounds like we are more likely to win the game but it’s not true. It’s all only talk, it’s nothing to do with reality. ‘We are very excited because it is a very interesting game, we are looking forward to it but it’s a normal situation.' Klopp has warned Mohamed Salah and Co they must be willing to leave everything on the pitch City are hopeful that Kevin De Bruyne will be fit to return after missing the victory at Southampton on Sunday. The Belgian trained with Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday but Klopp insists they have made no special plans to deal with him if he plays. Klopp added: ‘We cannot prepare especially for De Bruyne. He is a special player and missing someone like him is a massive blow. 'He’s just a world class player and I expected that he’d be in training. I love the player. He looks really humble and outstanding player on the pitch, a leader and all that stuff so yes it would make a different but since he has been out, Pep said the football they played this season is better than last. 'They have a lot of options and obviously if he were to play that would give them a massive boost.'
