In an emotional press conference on Thursday, Murray broke down in tears as he said pain caused by his ongoing hip injury will see him retire from professional tennis at Wimbledon in the summer - if not sooner. The two-time Wimbledon champion has established himself as one of Great Britain's greatest ever sportsmen and bosses at SW19 are ready to recognise that with a statue inside the grounds. Two-time winner Andy Murray is to be recognised with a statue at Wimbledon, bosses reveal Murray, lifting his 2013 Wimbledon title, would join Fred Perry who has a statue at the grounds 'For sure. I don't think there's any doubt about that,' Richard Lewis, the chief executive of the All England Club which runs Wimbledon, told BBC Sportsweek. 'We always felt that when Andy retired that that would be the appropriate time to recognise his extraordinary career. 'I am sure something like that will be done, but meanwhile down at the club he is seen as a highly respected person both on and off the court. We are very fond of him and he is a great person to have around the club.' Murray is struggling with a hip injury that has troubled him badly for the last two years Murray first won Wimbledon back in 2013 with a stunning victory over big rival Novak Djokovic, who he had beaten months earlier at the US Open for his maiden Grand Slam title. Victory at Wimbledon saw Murray become the first by a British male since Fred Perry 77 years earlier to take the title. A statue of Perry was revealed at Wimbledon's Church Road Gate in 1984 to mark the 50th anniversary of his first singles Championship and Murray now appears set to join alongside. The Scot is battling on through the pain in Melbourne currently as he gears up for his first round match against Roberto Bautista Agut at the Australian Open on Monday morning.
