'It’s a red card… the referee knows nothing about football!’: Graeme Souness slams Mike Dean for not sending off Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba for challenge on Tottenham's Dele Alli Paul Pogba only received a yellow card for his challenge on Dele Alli Graeme Souness felt that Pogba should have been sent off for the foul Pogba had earlier set up Marcus Rashford as Manchester United beat Tottenham By Jeorge Bird For Mailonline Published: 20:14 GMT, 13 January 2019 | Updated: 20:22 GMT, 13 January 2019 Viewcomments Graeme Souness has criticised referee Mike Dean for not sending off Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba for his challenge on Tottenham's Dele Alli. Pogba set up Marcus Rashford for the only goal of the game as United secured a 1-0 victory at Wembley. However, Souness believes that Pogba's challenge in the 78th minute should have resulted in a red card instead of a yellow. Graeme Souness felt Paul Pogba should have been sent off for his challenge on Dele Alli Speaking on Sky Sports, Souness said: 'I think it’s a red card. And there’s not one ounce of doubt in my mind. He knew what he was doing. You step over it, you use your strength to keep the player away, but look where the ball is, look where the foot is. 'If that referee doesn’t see that as a red card, he sees it as a foul, he sees it as a yellow card, then he knows nothing about football, the referee. There wasn’t one ounce of doubt in my mind he’s gone over the ball to do him.' Former Liverpool player Souness has frequently been critical of Pogba. However, the incident with Alli aside, Pogba has enjoyed an excellent time in recent weeks, with the Frenchman thriving under the guidance of caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. United have won all six of their games since Solskjaer's appointment, with Pogba having been especially influential. The victory over Tottenham saw United boost their chances of securing a top four finish as they moved level on points with fifth-placed Arsenal.
